TEPCO is reporting that there was no effect from this most recent earthquake on its Kashiwazaki Kariwa Nuclear Station.

Kashiwazaki Kariwa is the largest nuclear power station in the world in terms of generating capacity, with an aggregate total of 8218 MWe net available from seven reactor plants. Nos. 1 through 5 are 1100 MWe BWR plants while nos. 6 and 7 are 1356 MWe ABWR plants.

This is the third nuclear site owned and operated by TEPCO. Below is a photo of the site, from TEPCO. Click to enlarge; this is a very large picture.


Details: Plants No. 1, 5, 6 and 7 are on line. Plants 2, 3 and 4 were in normal shutdown prior to the earthquake.
