@ 5:20 PM EST ...Reuters is reporting that the US did not supply coolant to the plants in Japan. Sources are indicating that the plants handled their own requirements on-site, which makes our earlier guess here that they may have used secondary on-site water as makeup for the primary systems look a little more solid.

"Coolant" for a light water reactor, whether boiling water (as at Fukushima Daiichi) or pressurized water is simply very purified water -- which means filtered with no particulates, deionized and deaereated.
