A helicopter has just dumped water on NO. 3 reactor plant at Fukushima Daiichi.
DEVELOPING 9:48 AM LOCAL 8:48 PM Eastern US updates following....
The helicopters are Chinooks; each is capable of carrying 7.5 tons of water. They're using the large buckets, below the choppers, like US fire service helicopters use. (8:57)
That would be 1800 gallons of water; the first drop was a direct hit but I'm not sure it looked like THAT much water.. Second drop now, not a good hit. (9:01)
