Please... everyone link this blog post AND the home address to their panicked friends and family.
We set off hundreds of nuclear and thermonuclear devices at both Bikini Atoll and at Eniwetok Atoll (also sp. "Enewetak") during the end of the 40's, through the 50's and into the 60's. The largest was 15 megatons; several were between 8 and 11 megatons. This is very easy to corroborate; do a google search or better yet, look around the site linked below.... but BEFORE YOU DO, ask these questions:
1. Do I need a mask now?
2. Do I need to stay indoors now?
3. Have I ever needed a mask?
4. Have I ever had to stay indoors?
5. Did I see my parents wearing masks and staying indoors?
Now ask this:
How much farther away is Japan than Bikini and Eniwetok?
Didn't they set off lots of bombs in Nevada, too?
How much could these reactors be putting in the air compared with over 300 nuclear weapons detonated over 20 years or so?
COME ON. STOP THE PANIC. THINK FOR YOURSELVES, PEOPLE. SHUT OFF THE BIG MEDIA. TURN ON SOME MUSIC AND CHECK THIS BLOG ONCE IN A WHILE AND RELAX. IF YOU ARE THAT CONCERNED SEND MONEY TO JAPAN.
Oh, and here's that link: GALLERY OF NUCLEAR WEAPON TESTING
Across the world, we have Germany and France ready to scrap their nuclear energy programs in total, while both nations are completely unaffected by this accident. There are those here that are starting to say we need to scrap nuclear and put solar panels on our roofs. But we'll need more power than that can give across the nation, so we'll need them in our yards, too. And probably on top of the Smart Cars we'll need when we can't produce the electricity to build anything larger any more. And probably all over the Western states, for which we'll pay dearly because of I-squared-R losses in the transmission lines we'll need to get electricity generated in New Mexico to New York City in mid-December.
As you can see, the big media is doing its job and the environmentalists, their lap dogs, are turning on nuclear as BAD as fast as they re-embraced it when their God, Global Warming, was born.
How ridiculous. Around here, we'll keep a level head... and get back to much more important nuclear energy issues.
